Endoscope Cleaning and Disinfection

March 25, 2026·5 min read

Safe use of an endoscope matters as much as its image quality. Inadequate reprocessing carries cross-infection risk. The core steps are:

1. Pre-cleaning and leak test

Manual pre-cleaning is done immediately after use, and a leak test checks endoscope integrity.

2. Enzymatic wash

Channels and the exterior are cleaned with an enzymatic solution to remove organic residue.

3. High-level disinfection

Automatic washer-disinfectors provide standardized, repeatable high-level disinfection with a multi-channel jet system and UV water disinfection; the full cycle can complete in about 15 minutes.

4. Rinse, dry and storage

After final rinse and air-drying, the endoscope is stored under suitable conditions. Automation reduces human error and safeguards infection control.
